What are healthy snacks?
Eating regularly will keep your body's metabolism going. We advise to supplement the 3 main meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner) with healthy snacks in between. We don’t just mean adding snacks, as an extra, to your diet but rather learning to distribute your calorie intake throughout the day. Make the 3 main meals a bit smaller and make sure you have a responsible snack in between.
First and foremost, a healthy snack contains the necessary essential nutrients, vitamins, minerals and dietary fibres. So, forget the snacks with a low nutritional value! Not only do they quickly make you feel hungry, but they are also bad for your heart, blood vessels and cholesterol, amongst many other things.
Whether a snack is healthy or not, is unfortunately not always available from the nutrition chart on the packaging. Although we are seeing more and more the ‘nutri-score’ label, the label that helps consumers to buy healthier food, it is still necessary to look at the ingredients list for natural ingredients. These contain proteins, (polyunsaturated) fats, carbohydrates and fibres. Just think of fruit, vegetables, dairy, nuts, seeds or seeds: they are a perfect addition to a healthy diet and taste great, as well!
What you don’t know, won’t hurt you, right? Ingredients such as emulsifiers, anthocyanins, acesulfame, sucralose seem complicated and a bit farfetched. Unfortunately, you come across these ingredients often and should be avoided as best as possible.
